Medically Supervised
Modified Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD) Program - 1000 Calorie Diet Protocol
The Concept The Modified VLCD at 1000 calories is on the border between a very low calorie diet and low calorie diet. Whereas the VLCD is only recommended for individuals with a BMI over 30, the Modified VLCD is an appropriate option for individuals with a BMI of 25 and higher. The VLCD does require medical supervision, as it is a mildly ketotic diet with approximately 60 grams of carbohydrate per day and to ensure the patient obtains full nutritional adequacy while on the diet.

The Modified VLCD is well suited for individuals who do not want to follow a full liquid fast and prefer to maintain one home-prepared food meal per day. The Modified VLCD is also well suited as a transition diet following the VLCD to reintroduce food into the daily eating plan.
